A Colorado man has been arrested and the chickens on the property have been seized. According to the Adams County Sheriff's Department, the suspect has been accused of using more than 30 roosters for cockfighting.

The joint investigation involved the Adams County Sheriff's Office and Adams County Animal Management with coordination from the Bureau of Animal Protection to serve the warrant on the suspect. In total, 39 birds were seized during the warrant. Some of the birds showed injuries that appeared to be consistent with cockfighting.

Adams County Sheriff's Office says that they take incidents of animal cruelty and animal fighting very seriously and congratulated the deputies, detectives, and regional partners for saving the birds from any further injuries and torture.

The lone suspect was taken to the Adams County Detention Facitility on suspicion of animal fighting and aggravated cruelty to animals. The case will be presented to the District Attorney's Office for the 17th Judicial District for the filing of charges.
