Going to the zoo is supposed to be a fun time for the family. It is a chance to see animals, escape the stress of work, get outdoors, and create some memories. Most people enjoy going to the zoo, and likely you have at least some memory or story from going as a child or as an adult. When going, you expect the only stress to be how tired you will get walking around, and if your kids will be good. Recently, some zoos in America had to temporarily shut down, including one in Colorado, after some scary threats.

Bomb Threats and Shooting Threats at Zoos

Over the weekend of May 1, May 2, and May 3, there were bomb threats and shooting threats called into multiple zoos across America, forcing temporary shutdowns to make sure everything was safe. These zoos received calls about active shooters and bombs being at these zoos, but strangely enough, none of the zoos are that close to each other. The zoos that received these threats are the Denver Zoo, Toledo Zoo in Ohio, Phoenix Zoo in Arizona, Louisville Zoo in Kentucky, and Columbus Zoo, also in Ohio. Only two of these threats are in the same state, with the others being nowhere near each other. The good news is that no bombs or shooters were found, but it has left authorities scratching their heads.

Denver Zoo Temporarily Shutdown

The Denver Zoo shut down temporarily on Sunday, May 3, after receiving a threatening phone call. The zoo was swept through, and it was determined that things were safe, and the zoo reopened on Monday, May 4. For anyone who had tickets to Glowing Wild on Sunday night, you can reach out to the zoo and request a refund, or you can reschedule for another night since the zoo was shut down and cancelled the event for Sunday. It is alarming that multiple zoos received this call, and it does make one hesitant to visit the zoo currently, despite things being considered safe.

For more details on the Denver Zoo being shut down on Sunday, make sure to click the link in the paragraph above. For more on other zoos receiving threats, make sure to click the link in the second paragraph above. Why someone would threaten zoos and decide to go after them is a question that needs answering, but for now, the good news is that everyone and all the animals appear to be safe, and the zoos are doing business as usual.
