Some Northern Colorado Foods Are Worth The Trip

When I was pregnant, it wasn't a thing for me to drive two towns over for something I was craving. It wasn't strange at all. It happened at least 12 times per week.

For me, driving long distances to scratch a food itch isn't weird at all. But how far is too far, and what foods are totally worth the mileage?

Let's break it down.

Johnstown

Buc-ee's was never on my radar growing up, but after it opened off I-25 in Johnstown back in March of 2024, my life changed forever. Dramatic? Yes. Accurate? Hell yes. I am fully willing to drive the 40 minutes from home for a Philly cheesesteak burrito.

Add some Beaver Nuggets and fudge, and you've got yourself a very good reason to travel.

Severance

Sometimes a gal just craves some bull testicles. Let me explain. I am absolutely not an adventurous eater, so this choice shocks even me, but there's just something about Bruce's Bar in Severance that actually makes eating something that would normally make me barf sound so damn appealing.

They're called Rocky Mountain Oysters, and they're essentially deep-fried bull testicles. Even I can't believe I enjoy them as much as I do, but it's true. When I get a hankering for bull balls, I just have to take the drive to Severance.

Johnstown...Again

Located off of I-25 in the Johnstown area, The Black Bear Diner, formerly known as Johnson's Corner, is where you will find the most amazingly huge cinnamon rolls. So amazing and so very huge, the 45-minute drive from my home is totally justified.

You can also find a banging menu full of comfort food. Well worth the trip.
