The "West Greeley Entertainment District" has a nice ring to it, and that's exactly what's coming as the City of Greeley, the Water Valley Company and the construction company PCL Construction broke ground September 24 on the spot that will be the home of the Colorado Eagles and much more in the near future.

It's a massive undertaking that will be built between County Road 17 and Highway 257 on the west edge of Greeley, making it a quick drive from pretty much anywhere - at least not that far from the Eagles' current home at The Ranch in Loveland.

More: Colorado Eagles and City of Greeley Proposal for the New Development

The 300-acre development will encompass not only the new home of the AHL's Colorado Eagles, but an indoor waterpark, hotel, shopping, retail and more.

Greeley Mayor John gates said, "Today is a historic day for Greeley. We’re laying the foundation for a project that will benefit this community for generations. From new jobs and small business opportunities to youth hockey and entertainment, this is smart growth that will lead to regional competitiveness and economic prosperity for all of Greeley."

While the Eagles are but a small part of the overall development project, their new arena is what everyone is talking about.

“For years, northern Colorado families have had to leave their community to find world-class entertainment and recreation,” said Martin Lind, who owns the Colorado Eagles. “We’re building a district that will keep families here, attract visitors and create opportunities for local businesses. With the City of Greeley’s leadership and this groundbreaking, we are turning that vision into reality. The Eagles are proud to call this future arena our home for at least the next 40 years.”

Proposed Greeley West Side Project and Eagles Hockey Arena Vision

The city of Greeley and Water Valley Company are exploring a public-private partnership to develop a community in west Greeley that would include an arena that would house the Colorado Eagles at the center of an entertainment and transportation hub.

The phased development could ultimately grow to 5,000 acres, one of Northern Colorado's largest developments. Below are some pictures. Here's the whole story.
