No Surprise, But Now Official. Bo Nix Is The Denver Broncos Starting QB!
It's been the world's worst-kept secret, but the Denver Broncos' new starting Quarterback has been named, and this kid is already making history. Why did it take so long?
Bo Nix Officially Announced As The Denver Broncos Starting QB
With the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos had the opportunity to do something really special, and for the first time in a long time, the loyal, yet extremely frustrated Denver Broncos fanbase we're nearly all on board with our first-round pick.
Quarterbacks in the game of football can make or break a football team. Try and name one NFL who's won the Super Bowl without an elite starting Quarterback. That's why when the Broncos skipped picking Josh Allen from the University of Wyoming in favor of Defensive Back Bradley Chibb, who isn't even on the team anymore, fans were over the legendary John Elway.
In fact, John recently said in an interview that not drafting Josh Allen, who is now a star NFL QB for the Buffalo Bills, was his biggest regret as the Broncos General Manager. That's tough to admit out loud, but he did it.
Now, under the guidance of the Broncos' Head coach Sean Payton, we didn't let that same mistake happen twice. The reason Sean knows about this all too well is because he was ready to take current Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL Draft before the Bheifs traded up to steal him at number 10, just before they had him at number 11.
Why Did It Take So Long For Bo Nix To Be Named Broncos Starting QB?
While most safely assumed Bo Nix would be named the Denver Broncos starting QB, Sean Payton waited until he was good and ready to make that official. His reasoning was pretty simple, Bo had to earn it.
If you hand a guy an opportunity without it being earned, it can create issues in the locker room, Coach Payton wanted to see guys naturally turn to Bo as the team leader, "sit with him at lunch" without being the official team leader first was one of his examples.
Bo's table must have been full, especially after two stellar pre-game performances, because Coach Payton officially named him the starting QB today before the start of practice.
Fun fact, Bo Nix will be the first rookie starting QB since John Elway over 30 years ago. We all know how that one worked out... Bo will likely sit out the final preseason game this weekend against the Arizona Cardinals at Empower Field at Mile High as he prepares to head to Seattle in week one to take on the Seattle Seahawks.
Will the Broncos have three quarterbacks on our 53-man roster come next week? This weekend's game will probably help the coaches with that decision. All we know is that it's Bo Nix time in Denver, and we're pumped for it. Go Broncos!
