The Greeley Fire Department has issued a burn ban in the city and the Western Hills Fire Protection District.

The ban applies to all outside fires, including recreational fires. According to a City of Greeley statement, it will remain in effect until weather conditions improve, decreasing the threat of extreme fire behavior.

The burn ban includes charcoal grills and other solid-fuel devices, as well as fireworks and smokers. Grills or devices fueled by natural gas or propane, which can easily be shut down in the event of an emergency, are still allowed.

No burn permits will be issued until further notice, officials said.

Individuals caught burning outdoor fires may be cited for violating the burn ban.

The city reported that burn bans are in place to protect property and the environment, conserve critical firefighting resources, and ensure the public safety of our community.
