There have been a few different storms that have hit Colorado that have caused major damage, like the 2008 tornado that struck Windsor.

However, the largest storms on Earth are tropical cyclones, which we call hurricanes in the United States.

Researchers at Colorado State University predicted this hurricane season to be particularly strong, which has shown through multiple storms that have slammed the East Coast.

When it came to Hurricane Helene, Colorado sent its best to try to help victims in Florida.

However, the true damage of Helene happened in the mountains in North Carolina, where unprecedented rainfall severely damaged cities like Asheville.

Even though we live well over 1,000 miles away from the destruction, a famous Colorado brewery is looking to help victims of Helene.

According to the Coloradoan, New Belgium is doing its part to try to help the victims of Hurricane Helene in Asheville, North Carolina, this week.

On Nov. 7 and 8, between noon and 7 p.m., they will be collecting donations of food cans to send to the Manna Food Bank. The goal is to fill up a trailer full of canned goods and other products.

This Friday, New Belgium will also be holding an event from 5-7 p.m. that is meant to benefit the NC Disaster Relief Fund and Pouring for Neighbors campaign.

If you’d like to participate in the donation drive, New Belgium is looking for these specific items:

  • Canned fruits and vegetables with pop-tops.
  • Canned protein and non meat protein such as beans.
  • Healthy snacks like protein and breakfast bars.
  • Women’s health products, specifically menstrual products.
  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, and razors for personal hygiene.
  • Disposable paper products.

It is worth saying that New Belgium has ties to Asheville as well, given that it has a location in the city.

The damage in Asheville caused by Hurricane Helene is nothing short of absolutely catastrophic.

Death totals have reached over 100 in the state alone, and many of the communities in western North Carolina are now almost unrecognizable due to the extreme damage from flooding.

While much of Asheville was almost completely underwater, a small community 20 miles away called Chimney Rock was completely swept off the map by the flood waters.

It has already gone down as the most destructive storm in the area’s history, and many people are still without essentials like running water. For places that do, people are advised against drinking it.

It’s truly difficult to put into words the devastation that took place in Western North Carolina. Even though we’re so far away, it’s absolutely worth it to help those in need.
