It’s Official: Colorado Has More Transplants Than People Born Here
If there’s one thing that has been getting on the nerves of many lifelong Coloradans, it has been the influx of transplants that began in the 2000s and continued on strong in the 2010s.
It first started when Denver became a bit of a boomtown, and since then, more people have been trying to get a piece of the pie.
The increase in transplants and the sudden need for places to house them has, in part, created a bit of a housing crisis in Colorado, with sky high rent and house prices. To be fair, we can’t completely blame transplants for this, but it doesn’t help.
At this point, some people may be wondering just how much of the population was actually born here.
Well, if you’re a born and raised Coloradan, you might want to look away.
Colorado Has Fifth Lowest Percentage of People Born in State Living There
If you were wondering just how many people are transplants in Colorado, a study done by Nexstar and published by FOX 31 may have some answers.
Nexstar wanted to look at the total population of each state and find out what percentage of people living there were actually born in said state.
After all the numbers were crunched, it would appear that people who hate transplants will have some ammo.
According to the study, only 41.11% of Colorado’s population was actually born in the Centennial State. That’s 2,416,286 people out of a population of 5,877,610.
The largest group of transplants born outside of Colorado are people born in California, who make up 10.22% of the state’s population.
It is worth noting that some people may have been born out of state but moved early in life to Colorado with their family.
However, it seems pretty undeniable at this point that Colorado is absolutely loaded with transplants. Or, maybe all the Colorado-born people are moving to Kansas City for some reason.
Who Has the Most and Least Percentage of People Born in Their State?
When it comes to the most loyal group of people to their state of birth, Louisiana takes the top spot.
77.13% of people in the state were born in Louisiana, The second largest group in the state are people born in Texas, although they only make up 2.9% of the population.
While less than half the people living in Colorado were actually born here, it’s far worse in Nevada.
There, only 27.22% of residents there were actually born there. In fact, it’s the only state where people born in a different state make up more of the population.
In Nevada, a whopping 45.92% of the population were originally born in California, which is insane to think about. If anything, it makes Colorado’s percentage of Californians look like amateur hour.
