The original film was released back in 1993 and is loosely based on the infamous Alferd Packer, a man accused of cannibalizing members of his group after being stranded in an especially brutal Western Colorado winter.

The stage version that will debut at the Avalon Theatre next month will be directed by David Kenworthy and will star Hollis Herald as Alferd Packer and Kelsey McCarty as Polly Pry, an investigative journalist who helped Packer get exonerated of the cannibalism charges.

The production was also funded by a significant list of local organizations and proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Avalon Theater Foundation and the Museums of Western Colorado.
