Now, after the man who was in charge of the mortuary and was also serving as coroner at the time, and his brother, were arrested because of the incident shortly following the grisly discovery took place, the brothers are both set to stand trial.

Grisly Colorado Mortuary Discovery Victims Identified

The grisly discovery took place at Davis Mortuary in Pueblo, Colorado, in August of last year. It was discovered that there was a “secret room” at the mortuary that was behind a false wall, which revealed that roughly 24 deceased bodies were being stored improperly behind the false wall and giving off a stench.

Following this discovery, Brian Cotter, the Pueblo County Coroner at the time, and his brother, Chris Cotter, who was also involved in the mortuary’s operations, were arrested.

Since then, nine deceased individuals have been identified from the remains, with a suspected 15 deceased people’s remains are still yet to be determined.

In addition to bodies, investigators also discovered unmarked human remains in jars.

Colorado Mortuary Discovery Leads to Trial

While both Brian and Chris Cotter are currently free, even to the point that neither has been named a flight risk, it has been announced that both men will soon be summoned to stand before a trial for their alleged crimes.

It does not appear that any formal charges have been filed at this point, but a civil lawsuit has been filed by one of the victims, a family member of one of the deceased whose remains were found to be mishandled by the mortuary, which has also been shut down and evicted from the premises in which it operated for numerous years.
