However, a new list released by 24/7 Wall St. ranks the worst chocolate brands by the many unsavory business dealings, many unethical, that they have been known to conduct and be involved in, and products from the top three are found everywhere in Colorado.
3rd Worst Chocolate Brand in Colorado: Hershey
Let's face it, Hershey is an American institution. However, just because they've been around for a couple of centuries doesn't mean they're an ethical company.
24/7 Wall Street ranked Hershey the third worst in the nation partially due to a 2022 scandal in which the company refused to notify the public of high levels of lead and cadmium in the chocolate.
2nd Worst Chocolate Brand in Colorado: Nestle
Nestle is a massive brand that encompasses much more than just chocolate, but the means in which the company gets its cocoa is the biggest reason they've been ranked as the second-worst in the country.
The company has been heavily criticized for using child labor, child trafficking, and even slavery to procure its chocolate and while promises have been made by Nestle to end these practices, nothing has changed thus far.
Worst Chocolate Brand in Colorado: Mars
Mars is a chocolate brand that encompasses such staples as Snickers, Milky Way, Twix, Three Musketeers, and M&Ms, to name a few.
While these delicious candies are enjoyed throughout the country, including in Colorado, the Mars corporation was ranked as the worst of the worst by 24/7 Wall St. due to their use of underpaid child labor, and even unpaid child labor in Africa as a means of procuring their chocolate.
