Rocky Mountain Oysters

In Canada, they are called Prairie Oysters. In the Big Sky State, they are called Montana Tender Groins. In Texas, they are Calf Fries. Even more, fun is the generic terms like Cowboy Caviar. But in Colorado, they are Rocky Mountain Oysters. Do you like them?

Two types of peaches grace local standards: Early season cling peaches and freestone peaches. They refer to the peach pits. A cling peach will stick to the pit and the freestone is not securely attached. Freestones are larger, juicier, and sweeter. The palisade peach festival in August features live music, chef demos, peach sampling, and some wine tasting, along with many vendors.

Now maybe not a food group, but so popular with over 400 throughout the state. When I first lived in Denver in 2006 I became familiar with Craft Beers. I was never a big beer drinker. Now living on the Western Slope of Colorado I've found so many great craft beers. At Octoberfest each year I've gotten to know some of the distributors. Ska Brewing out of Durango Colorado is one of my favorites. My husband and I love trying new Breweries on the Western Slope. Grand Junction has too many great ones.

Georgia has Vidalia onions, and a small pocket of rural Colorado has Olathe Sweet Corn. The story behind the corn is the sugary fresh taste. The Olathe Sweet Corn festival began in 1992. It is held in August each year.
