One of the best parts of any road trip (at least for me) is making stops at random, regional gas stations.

You can really start to tell what part of the country you're in depending on whether you stop at a Kwik Trip, a Maverik, or even a Wawa. It seems like these major chains are kind of built into the local culture.

We have our favorites and we wave our loyalties to them proudly.

But what about the locally owned spots we might stop at while we're on the road?

American River Wellness, a "DOT-qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) provider based in Sacramento, CA, serving drivers and safety-sensitive employees nationwide," put together a list of the top 126 best locally owned gas stations in the United States.

The ranking was based off of a survey of over 3,000 drivers.

There were a few Colorado gas stations that made the cut!

Unfortunately, no service station from the Centennial State made the top five.

1. Rumpy’s Bakery & Deli, Gainesville, Texas
2. Patriot Petroleum + New England Homemade Donuts, Portsmouth, Rhode Island
3. Boulineau’s Express, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
4. Goose Creek Market, Staunton, Virginia
5. Hickam 24 Hour Gas Station, Honolulu, Hawaii
