Does Your Junk Drawer Have One Of These In It? Mine Sure Does

I have a prediction: you will have at least 3 of the 10 items I list as the most common in junk drawers. A person's junk drawer is a sacred space of family secrets.

But no matter how different junk drawers are, they're also the same. Does that make sense? What I'm saying is every junk drawer, no matter what Northern Colorado city you live in, has at least three things in common.

Let's take a look.

Here are the most common items found in junk drawers

• Let's jump right in with Mexican pesos. Anyone who travels abroad comes home with foreign money. Maybe we keep it because it looks so weird, or maybe it's because we forgot to cash out. For whatever reason, almost every junk drawer has foreign money that can never be used here in America and is basically worthless. Also, every time you see it, you get mad because you're going to work and are no longer in paradise.
• Next, let's talk about scotch tape dispensers without the actual tape. This one's a shout-out to all my parents. Either there is no more tape, and your kid just threw the empty case back in the drawer, or they let the tape fold over, therefore making it impossible to get it back on track. There is no in-between.
• Here's one I don't expect anyone else in the entire universe to have. Your kids' umbilical cord. For some reason, when it fell off, I threw it in the junk drawer, and then every time I saw it, I felt like throwing it out would make me a bad mom. I realize now that I was just being a psychopath.
• Chapstick is a big one at my house. But since my daughter likes to take tiny bites out of them, they're basically worthless. And yet we have 13 tubes.
• How about random phone cords that aren't even made or used anymore? I blame my husband for this one because men find it impossible to throw out any type of cord.
• And finally, batteries. Some work and some don't, but you'll never throw them away, and we don't know why.
