This Mountain Pass is the Best Fall Road Trip in Colorado
Right now is the prime time to see the fall foliage in the state of Colorado. This time of year is my absolute favorite time to take a drive into the mountains as it looks like the hills are hemorrhaging gold.
Aspen groves in the high country go from pale green leaves to a vast array of warm colors in the fall months. You can expect to see yellow, and red, and believe it or not, we've even seen leaves tinged with purple in years past.
For the best Aspen leaf peeping in Colorado, you are going to want to go when the fall colors are at their peak. Depending on where you go in Colorado, these times can differ from week to week. A daytime road trip to the mountains is always quality time well spent. But, where do you go?
According to MarketWatch, one Colorado mountain pass is the absolute best road trip to take in the fall. To get to this mountain pass, you will have to drive a few hours from Northern Colorado to Lake and Pitkin Counties. The 32-mile stretch of road is Independence Pass and if you want to go to Aspen, this pass is the perfect road to take in all the scenery.
Earlier this summer, I got to drive on Independence Pass and I have to say, it is one of the most scenic roads in all of Colorado. If you have the time and the desire to take a lengthy trip into the mountains of Colorado, I highly suggest you take a drive through Independence Pass this fall.
