Reporter-Herald Makes Move to Stop Publishing Comments from RH Line

Many say it's a good thing, but many others are disappointed; Loveland's Reporter-Herald has stopped publishing comments in the newspaper and online from Northern Colorado readers.

After Nearly 30 Years, Reporter-Herald RH Line Comments Won't Be Published

The Reporter-Herald started publishing comments that come into its RH Line ((970)-635-3637) in 1997. It goes without saying that many things in the media have changed since then, so it's not terribly surprising that the publishing of comments would see an end, but it is a big deal to many.

The RH Line comments were behind the newspaper's paywall, but those who do subscribe took an interest in what people were commenting on, whether it was about potential data centers or looking for church recommendations.

More than a few people chimed in on the Reporter-Herald's Facebook page about the end of comment publishing:

It is the best part of the paper. Always entertaining and sometimes informative. People just need to be more accepting of the opinions of others.

Back when I got this newspaper I loved reading the anonymous complaining! It was always a good chuckle with coffee. Like reading the old back pages on Westword !

Thank you so much for doing this! It has been such a frustrating part of the newspaper and a waste of space. It's like the worst social media to hide anonymously and say hateful, hurtful and often untrue or ignorant things. Write a letter to the editor. Even if the paper decides to print it anonymously it should have to have a verifiable name behind it to be considered.

You're taking my morning entertainment away!

The community has now lost what once was a good feature. But, we can agree with the editor's decision as "In an era of ferocious political and social divisiveness, the RH Line has lost its value to the community".
