A Massive Colorado Trail Just Opened an Important Piece
Colorado bikers and trail hikers are one step closer to freely moving from Bellvue to Greeley along the Poudre River Trail.
And soon, the 40-year vision will be completed.
New Northern Colorado Trail Section Takes Bikers Off Busy Roads
The Poudre River Trail segment runs a half mile to connect the Arapaho Bend Natural Area east to the pedestrian underpass at Interstate 25 that the Colorado Department of Transportation completed earlier in 2024.
This particular part of the massive trail system allows recreational and commuter users to travel between Fort Collins and Timnath without having to travel along the overcrowded roads in the area.
What’s needed to complete the Poudre River Trial?
The city of Fort Collins is now working on its final Poudre River Trail segment west of the Arapaho Bend Natural Area at Rigden Reservoir and connecting to the existing trail near Colorado State University’s Environmental Learning Center.
Completion of this portion is expected later in 2024, but not later than 2025, according to the project website.
The Colorado Front Range Trail/Poudre River Regional Trail Initiative has been a 40-year project convened by Larimer County, Fort Collins, Windsor, Timnath and the Colorado Department of Transportation.
A $2 million Great Outdoors Colorado grant awarded in 2019 helps to connect the project where gaps existed between Fort Collins and Windsor.
