Fall is right around the corner, and Western Colorado families are wondering where to find the closest pumpkin patch, corn maze, hayrides, animals, and other attractions before Halloween arrives.

From Western Slope favorites like Studt Farms in Grand Junction and Moon Farm in Fruita, to destinations across the state, the following pumpkin patches look forward to your visit this fall. Many will be open from late September through October.

Pumpkin Season Arrives in Late September

For Western Colorado families, the main pumpkin-patch season begins in late September and continues through October. Studt Farms is scheduled to open in late September and operate through late October, while Moon Farm's 2026 fall season is listed for Sept. 25 through Oct. 31. Colorado State University Extension notes that pumpkins need a long, warm growing season and are harvested when fully mature, with a hard rind not easily penetrated by a fingernail.

Fall Hours Can Change From One Day to the Next

One thing to remember is to check your pumpkin patch’s current schedule. Some locations, such as Studt Farms, have different hours depending on the day. Seasonal attractions that arrive between now and Halloween can also change admission prices, activity schedules, or operating days. Check the farm's official information so you don’t waste gas.

How to Pick the Perfect Pumpkin

For a pumpkin that is mature and ready for carving, look for a hard rind that is not easily marked with a fingernail. CSU Extension also recommends picking pumpkins that are the color you want rather than assuming a green or partially colored pumpkin will finish ripening after it is picked. For carving, I look for pumpkins with a shape and flat base I can work with. A sturdy stem is super important, and be sure to avoid pumpkins with obvious soft or damaged spots. They’ll last longer.
