Downtown Grand Junction continues to welcome new businesses along Colorado Avenue, and the latest addition is a little bit different than a traditional furniture store.

Alluvial is now open at 421 Colorado Avenue, offering furniture brands not previously available in Grand Junction, along with home décor, art, and custom-order furniture.

Like many shops in Grand Junction, Alluvial is designed as a showroom instead of a huge warehouse packed with inventory. Stop in to see living-room, bedroom, and dining furniture, along with chairs, bookshelves, and local art. Ask about larger pieces and custom orders. Morgan Woodward is the primary owner, with Jenna Smith holding a smaller ownership stake. Stop in, welcome them to our downtown, and expect their showroom to feature new items regularly.

What If You Don't Have a Huge Furniture Budget?

The downtown retailers built to last are the ones that sell things Grand Junction wants and at a price that fits the Western Slope. Browns Cycle lasted 25 years downtown doing just that. Alluvial will start by recommending furniture based on your budget.

Smith says shoppers can tell them what they can afford, and they'll work within that range. Smaller décor and artwork give customers the option to start small. Alluvial opened on September 12, and when I stopped by, it was already full of great merchandise. Go and see it at 421 Colorado Avenue, next door to Roots.

The name Alluvial was chosen in tribute to the Grand Valley's rivers and the sediment and rock. The owners say they will feature around 10 artists lined up to provide home décor. When you stop by the store, local woodworker John Howard built the checkout counter, while Katelyn Pierce created the logo and contributes quilts and quilted pillows through Seed Stitchery Co.
