Some of the best hiking companions are breeds like Alaskan Malamute, Australian Shepherd, Bernese Mountain Dog, Border Collie, Labrador Retriever, Rhodesian Ridgeback, and Siberian Huskies. Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed a bill in 2013 officially declaring all sheltered dogs as state dogs of Colorado. So the next time you visit a pet shelter, know that those are the official cats and dogs of the Centennial State. Even if some of them are not from Colorado.
