When you saddle up to the bar what's on your mind? Probably that you are here for a drink. Not just any drink, one that takes you to another place and time. (Maybe vacation). I've lived in some great cities over the past 15 years, and I get to know my bartenders.

What Makes a Great Bartender?

Being friendly is a good start. In my experience not afraid to make you a drink that you love. Robbie at The Horsefly does just that. I first met him at The Vine, which was in downtown Montrose, but closed during the pandemic. Robbie is just a fun great guy. He makes the best Elderflower Martini. He also works at Phelanies Speakeasy.

What is a Speakeasy you ask?

Speakeasies came about in the 1920s when the production and sale of alcohol were illegal. Entrepreneurs at the time sold and served alcohol in concealed basements with doors that only opened with a password. Phelanies Speakeasy in Montrose Colorado has Hand Crafted Cocktails, light appetizers, and a quiet relaxing environment to unwind in after a long day. They also have a password to get in.

Why am I choosing Montrose's Best Bartenders?

There is not just one. I also like Rachel at The Stonehouse. She wears the biggest smile and makes the best Cosmopolitan (Cosmos). The other night I was at the Stonehouse and asked a few patrons who they liked. Patrick Vis said Felina from the Stonehouse. She is great too, she makes an awesome Pomegranate Mimosa on Sunday at Brunch.
