You’ve Got to See This Cute Colorado Pigeon in a Knitted Nest
At first glance, I thought this pigeon was in a knitted sweater, but I was wrong. It appears that this pigeon is in a cozy little knitted nest. You will also notice that there is some pink on the back of the pigeon.
That is because this juvenile pigeon is recovering from a pelvic injury and the pink is actually a medical wrap. The photo of the pigeon was posted via Facebook by Northern Colorado Wildlife Center.
The treatment that the injured pigeon is getting helps the bird to remain comfortable and in a natural position. The photo of the bird was posted on Tuesday morning prior to an x-ray at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Olga Hollins commented on the photo asking who crocheted the yarn bowl that the pigeon was placed in and the Northern Colorado Wildlife Center informed all of us that some very sweet people at a retirement home custom-made these yarn bowls for the birds.
The Northern Colorado Wildlife Center is also in the process of building two pre-release flight cages at their wildlife hospital in Fort Collins. When the cages are complete, the Northern Colorado Wildlife Center will be able to submit an application to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to rehabilitate migratory birds that are injured in the Northern Colorado area.
The Northern Colorado Wildlife Center says that the cages were funded through supporters of a fundraising effort called $5 Friday. The Northern Colorado Wildlife Center is a 501(c)3 independent nonprofit that rehabilitates sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife in the Northern Colorado region. When these animals are successfully rehabilitated, they are released back into the wild where they belong.
