You'd think by living in Colorado I would know quite a few things about Telluride. But I don't. I have always seen it as a rich man's vacation. That was until I heard Tim McGraw's song "Telluride". I want to hear about all "the sleepless nights" in Telluride, Colorado.

I was there visiting for the first time last summer and here is what I discovered.

Telluride Town Park

The park sits in the middle of town and plays host to many music festivals and sporting activities. 36 acres filled with Volleyball courts, a swimming pool, two ice rinks, and even a campground. It's located at the end of east Colorado Avenue, Just a short walk away from the main strip.

The Gondola ride to Mountain Village

Jump on the gondola, to access the village. Gondola Plaza is full of many restaurants and boutiques. Shopping is a bit in the pricey range for the average folks, but a great place to people-watch. Now if you are looking to be a tad bit more active than sitting around watching others. May I suggest a game of frisbee golf or fishing during the summer months, and for those winter outings like ice-skating or maybe even snowshoeing the trails? Definitely worth the trip on the Gondola.

Alta Lake & Alpine Lake

When you're sightseeing in Telluride, be sure to make a stop at Alta Lake. Check out one of the most historic mining/ghost towns.

Reminder: You'll be in the backcountry with limited facilities.

Hiking Along The San Miquel

When it comes to hiking, this is an easy stroll when it comes to enjoy the outdoors around Telluride. Just grab a decent pair of shoes and head out onto this trail that runs thru the historic village. This community trail is full of beautiful waterfalls to enjoy. Bring the Camera.

Bear Creek Falls

By far the most popular hiking trail can be reached from downtown at the end of South Pine Street. This one is for the more experienced hikers and mountain bikers as well. The trail is a dirt road that climbs upward for two miles where it meets the Bridal Veil Basin.
