Museums are great, aren't they? They're one of the best options around for learning about facts and human history without requiring you to read one of those pesky books that everyone seems to hate. With so much rich history in a state like ours, it should come as no surprise that Colorado is home to more than 355 museums. That sounds like a lot to me.

With so many choices out there, you might have a hard time deciding where to go if you're looking to learn a little more about the Centennial State. Luckily, that's exactly what we're here for. We've gone through the enormous list of must-visit museums in Colorado, and whittled it down to something you should find a little more manageable. Here are five of our favorites:

Colorado Snowsports Museum

Do you love skiing and snowboarding? It's Colorado, so how could you not? Well, the Colorado Snowsports Museum is where you need to go if you want to learn as much as you can about playing in the snow. The museum also serves as a snowsports Hall of Fame, so you can learn about some of the legendary athletes that have made a mark on the sport, as well.

Colorado Railroad Museum

This one is perfect for the whole family, because it's a rule that kids like trains. Where better to learn about trains than the Colorado Railroad Museum? Over 100 exhibits across 15 acres should keep you busy for quite a while, and any place that lets you ride a train is ok in my book. Like I said: fun for the whole family.

Denver Museum of Nature & Science

If nature and science are more your speed, you should check out the appropriately-named Denver Museum of Nature & Science. They promise to satisfy your scientific curiosity, but I'm not sure that's possible with how much there actually is to see and do inside. It's like the real-life equivalent of falling down a Wikipedia hole, but with context and better sourcing.

Aspen Art Museum

Art museums aren't exactly great for historical knowledge, but they're perfect if you're looking to learn more about symbolism and self-expression. If you love art, then the Aspen Art Museum is one of the best places to go in the state of Colorado. The museum is by artists, for artists, so if you're a creative type, you're likely to leave with even more ideas than you came in with.

Museum of the West

What list of museums you should visit in Colorado would be complete without the Museums of Western Colorado? While the Museum of the West in Grand Junction is the place to go for overall Western Slope history, that same umbrella has you covered for more specific pursuits. You can check out fossils at Dinosaur Journey in Fruita, and if you want to learn about Western Slope agriculture, you need to head over to Cross Orchards in Fruitvale.

Colorado has no shortage of other, great museums, and in my opinion, they're all worth a visit. Take a look at even more you can tour right now in the gallery below. Did we miss any of your favorites? Let us know with AppChat.
