There are a few different reasons people skip out on eating meat. Some do it for health (more veggies), others do it because of the way animals we eat are often treated, and some do it for the planet.

Fast food has rarely been a healthy choice, but you can usually choose smarter. For those that don't want to eat meat, Chick-fil-A is working on something for you. The Chick-fil-A Cauliflower Sandwich will be available starting February 13 in three test markets, including Denver.

Chick-fil-A states "the sandwich is made with a tender filet cut from a whole, real cauliflower and embraces the plant-forward style that places vegetables at the center of the entrée." They are prepping it just like the chicken sandwich, with signature seasoning, buttery bun, and pickle slices. They say it took 4 years to get it right.

This announcement sparked some conversation about the difference between vegetarian and vegan. A friend of mine describe the difference to me as "vegetarians don't eat it if the animal died, vegans don't eat it if it has a face." As with so many things, there are many ways people define it for themselves.

Chick-fil-A stated that the new sandwich would be prepared in the same area as meat products and the recipe includes milk and eggs. Most agree, this sandwich is vegetarian, but certainly not vegan.

This sounds like a great idea for Meatless Monday. Meatless Monday is a movement that caught on, encouraging us to reduce our meat consumption by just one day per week for our health and the health of our planet.

The Environmental Center of CU Boulder stated "the meat industry uses vast amounts of our finite fossil fuels and water and lots of grain to feed livestock, which is extremely inefficient" and that you "save 133 gallons of water with each meatless meal."
